Slaying dragons

prince and princess

Her crimson hair curled around her face as the wind gently kissed her skin. She sat there in the darkness of the forest listening to the trees. They spoke to her, whispering stories of knights and dragons, of fairy princesses and of wicked gargoyles. She had spent many an hour out there in the forest as a child. It was her sanctuary.

Little did she know that all of her world was about to change. For there in the dark forest evil lurked. The stories told to her by the trees were not just tales woven to entertain a little girl. They had been warnings. She only wished she had understood that long ago.

As she stroll along the path the wind began to howl a warning. And from the thick under brush game a menacing growl.
Eyes that shown blood red glared at it’s intended prey, and it ran a river of drool and fresh blood down it’s chin. This beast of the forest had claws. Ones that could rip a large beast apart. It would have no problem decimating one small girl.

She hated being small. It made others think of her as a child, when in fact she was a grown woman of age. They watched over her like you would an infant in it’s cradle. So the more they worried the more she defied them. Like going into the woods alone, and learning how to handle a sword and knife and bow. She was as adept as any grown man.

It was now that she began to feel the beasts eyes burrowing into her back. She knew it wanted to consume her. And she dared it to try. She would not surrender to it easily. As it lunged at her she wielded her sword in defiance.
This monster would not have her, not today. For today she was stronger than she had ever been. Today she had a reason to live. Because yesterday she had met her prince, and love had bloomed in the darkened woods.
